Camping is a great way to spend time out in nature and feel relaxed. But the fun and benefits of camping largely depend on your selection of the correct tent.
While the tent’s size is an important consideration, there are other considerations too. For instance, you should find it convenient to erect it and dismantle the same to a size that fits into your vehicle. Moreover, it should withstand wind, and its interiors should remain dry even if it rains. All the requirements can be summed up by saying that it needs to be strong yet lightweight, robust but collapsible, and remain comfortable.
Over the years, technology has played an important role in making tough, durable and comfortable tents in numerous designs. However, you should be clear of your requirements to be able to choose the perfect tent. Here are a few factors needing your consideration:
How many people are going to camp?
Are you going to camp alone, with a friend, or some members of your family? Will it provide enough sleeping room for everybody?
In case you are going to camp alone, one single person tent would suffice. However, if you intend storing your personal effects in the same tent, you may find it worthwhile to have a tent designed for two persons. On similar lines, if two persons are going to camp, it would be convenient to get a tent meant for accommodating three persons so that personal belongings of both the persons can be fitted in easily.
If you intend camping with a family consisting of four members, tents designed for four persons may just suffice, and some of you may feel stuffy. In case you have grown-up kids, it will be a better idea to have two tents, one for the parents and the other for the grown-up kids. Alternatively, you may have a larger tent for parents plus one baby, and individual tents for each of the youngsters. If you like the idea of the complete family staying together in the same camp, you can go for a larger tent comprising of more than one room, though its erection may require a little extra effort.
Ensure that it is big enough!
Don’t buy a tent unless you are sure of its comfort level. The best way to do that is to enter the tent without your shoes or any sharp items and lie down to stretch yourself. You should fit in without curling up, and without your legs and feet projecting outside the tent.
Material used for its construction
The most common material used for making tents is lightweight nylon. Poles for the tent may be made from fiberglass or aluminum.
The prices of tents vary from less than a hundred dollars to thousand dollars and even more. You should know your budget and camping requirements, and be willing to make some compromises.
Though setting up a tent is not a difficult job, it will be helpful if you ask the seller to give you a demonstration of erecting the tent.
