These statues were made as a sort of accolade to the emperor. These statues of the emperor’s army were supposed to protect him in the afterlife. These statues were discovered in 1907 surrounding the emperor’s mausoleum and since then have been excavated from the site. It is estimated that these are a total of 8000 in number and vary in height and width according to the roles they have in the army. The tallest being the leaders and so on.
